To all our OBSERV 520X and 520X +360 owners
We understand there are a lot of questions with the January 2025 changes made on the Sylton Cloud storage. These global charges are from the parent company SYLTON. We appreciate this is an additional cost to many business owners, and ourselves, in our tight economy.
Sylton have invested in HIPAA and GDPR encryption for OBSERV owners to keep our clients’ data safe and secure. This is a double encrypted system to ensure total safety. The storage costs cover that security, creation of the system and convenience it provides us. The OBSERV 320 and 520X app will work and store the data on the iPad you have synchronized with your OBSERV as long as you stay under the Sylton Safe free 5GB capacity. However, without Sylton Connect you do run the risk of losing your client data if you select not to utilise it or you lose your iPad.
The following risk this does impose:- Client’s data will not be accessible from other iPads, even when you download the OBSERV app and login from the new iPad and pair it with your OBSERV.- Unable to access your client’s sessions from the PC version on Connect.Sylton.com.- Loss of workflow if you have multiple staff wanting to access the app at the same time during client consultations.- Client’s trust comprised if personal data and treatment records were to be lost.
OBSERV NZ has no control over the decisions made from the head office at Sylton in the Netherlands.At our best, we are here to help with the storage upgrades for our OBSERV Family.Please do keep this document as a reference, for future when needing to upgrade.

Sylton Safe FAQS.
Why are my client sessions missing photos?If you noticed your client is missing photos from their report, this is an indication that you are out of storage. It is possible that when the client’s session images were captured, the app would have not saved some of the photos due to lack of storage. Check your storage capacity in the settings section of the OBSERV App.
How much storage do I need and how many sessions does it give me?Please see the above chart via model of OBSERV device you have to see what you can get the most out of each monthly subscription.
How do I upgrade my storage?Go to settings on your OBSERV app and select Sylton connect on the left-hand menu, scroll down to the bottom of the page and press the upgrade now button. This will take to you Connect.Sylton where you are able to select your suitable storage plan.
What is the difference between monthly and annual storage plans?When purchasing an annual storage plan you get 2 months free of charge, your subscription will renew yearly for those that do not want to do monthly payments.
If I pay for an annual storage plan and use up all the storage within a year, do I need to pay again? Yes, if you use up all your storage you purchased for the year you will need to upgrade to a bigger storage plan.
Can I change between monthly and yearly payments?Yes, you can do this by going to the product advice page, located in the Sylton connect menu in settings and choose your suitable plan, the new subscription will start once you are at the end of your current subscription.
What happens to locally stored data if I upgrade to a larger Sylton Connect membership?As soon as you upgrade your membership to a membership that allows you more storage space, all locally stored patient data will be synchronized to the Sylton Connect cloud this way, all previously and newly captured data will be stored securely in the cloud.
Can I downgrade my Sylton Connect Pro membership?Yes, you can downgrade your Sylton Connect Pro plan based on your clinic's needs. Go to the Product Advice page in the settings menu and simply select a different plan. The new plan will take effect after the end of your current membership term (monthly or yearly). Be aware that all data above the membership limit is not backed up in the Sylton Connect Cloud.
When I purchased my OBSERV I got 300GB of free storage, why have I got no storage now and need to upgrade?If you purchased your OBSERV before March 1st, 2025, Sylton offered 2 years free cloud storage of 300GB capacity. The reasons you have run out of storage is because your 2 year free period is up or you have used your 300GB which now requires you to buy a plan.
What happens with my data if I have reached my free 5GB?Up to 5GB of patient data will be stored securely in the Sylton Connect cloud free of charge. If you go over the 5GB and did not (yet) upgrade to a paid membership, all additional images captured will be stored locally on the iPad if you have iPad storage. You can still keep on using the OBSERV and the app as before, but the data will no longer be stored in the cloud. This may become an issue if you are wanting to access your client sessions from another device.
How do I check how much storage I have left?Go to settings on your OBSERV app and select Sylton connect on the left-hand menu. This will give you information how much storage you have used.
