Welcome to the OBSERV Journey beneath the Skin!
The appearance of the surface of the skin is the result of a complex interaction between:1. Light- revealing the fine textures and glyphic patterns of the surface, AND 2. The shine of the light reflecting of the lipid film , OR 3. The scattering of light through rough or dry skin cells.4. The layers of the human skin; not only on a biological level but also in an ‘optical’ sense. As we know as #skinnerds Skin Therapists - The human skin is not an opaque medium. The epidermis is a transparent optical medium and the dermis is mainly a turbid (milky and cloudy) medium.
When observing the skin, a significant part of its appearance is the result from light passing through the skin’s surface and illuminating its inner works.
The light rays undergo complex optical interactions; mainly scattering about and being absorbed into different skin cells, different fluids and the variety of pigments before the rays turn around and zoom north to resurface again to become visible to our eyes’, as the Skin Therapist. Our Cell membranes and vascular structures deeper in the skin behave like reflectors and diffusors. As a result the appearance of the human skin is dependent on and reflective of our client’s skin’s health from the surface layers down into the deeper layers of the skin.
To assist us in our Skin Analysis and to add to the data collected from your thorough professional consultation we have, available to you, the latest tools from The Netherlands called the OBSERV 520 X DIAGNOSTIC DEVICE and the OBSERV 320 DIAGNOSTIC DEVICE .
The OBSERV 520 X is designed with 3 different observation platforms allowing you to view and analyse skin health through all layers: from the surface to deepest layer. The OBSERV 320 has one platform allowing an excellent segway into Advanced Skin Analysis and creation of Annual Treatment plans.Daylight mode-This mode allows you to evaluate the skin in a bright but neutral illumination. The face and its features are evenly illuminated without shadows or any emphasis on particular skin features or layers. It provides a clear and reproducible means for an overall clinical evaluation of the facial skin in a natural light.
Cross polarized mode - In the cross-polarized mode a special filter supresses any surface reflections and it allows you to look into the skin. The fine vascular; diffused redness details at the epidermal / dermal junction can easily be spotted.
Parallel Polarised mode - In this mode the polarization filter technology is used in the opposite way; the filters enhance the surface reflection revealing the glyphic patterns, pore structures, fine surface textures and wrinkles in detail!
The True UV mode- Inside of the skin, the cells and tissues have the natural capacity to turn these invisible UV rays into visible light and in this way effectively turns the skin into a human lamp.! Consequently, skin impairments and conditions which previously hardly could be seen by the naked eye, now clearly stand out from normal healthy skin tissue. Additionally different cells and skin tissues in different conditions create different fluorescent illumination patterns so skin conditions which in the daylight can deceptively look the same can now easily been differentiated.
The Wood’s mode- The wood’s mode is named after the inventor of the original Wood’s lamp, Robert William Wood. This fluorescent light has a strong diagnostic value as the blue light is reflected by skin lipids. As a result a pinkish/ orange coloured haze appears on areas on which the oil film has distributed.
The Complexion mode- As a result of biological aging and the accumulation of photo-damage the skin loses its overall skin tone and evenness {homogeneity} which it originally obtained at birth. Slowly local pigmentations occur and the skin tone may develop differently across different sections of the face. This amplification shows the clients apparent age far better than the other modes! this mode provides a powerful introduction to discussing the in-salon treatment programmes required which are designed to balance skin tone contrast and thereby improve the natural beauty of the skin.
The 360 Light- Show clients more than they can see. The dynamic control wheel gives you full control over your point of light so you can focus on volume loss, fine lines and wrinkles. It allows you to show the need for volume and lifting, facial contouring and skin improvement and well as the wrinkle and line actions that may be selected as a call to action. Think CT Dermal Needling, RF, Botox, BBF/IPL, Profilhlo-style hydration and glow ,layering of fillers and threads etc.
2022 and beyond – Time to “up the game” on Skin Diagnosis and create results -driven salon options for your clients and team of Skin Therapists.
